Dylan
Rhydderch
Name: Dylan Ioan Rhydderch
House Affiliation: Gryffindor
Current Age: 14/4th
Birthday: 31 October
Appearance: Black hair, blue-grey eyes,
tall, slender though muscled. A runner's physique. Pale, with
a nose that shows how often its been broken.
Family Background: The eldest son of a
traditional northern Welsh family, Dylan grew up in a world
of coal, choirs and mountains. There was no room for thoughts
of magic more often than the occasional passing fancy, or the
hope for something better than this hand to mouth existence
tucked away in a green valley of the north. His life, however,
is coloured by streaks of seemingly random incidents of luck.
More times than not when he would help his father in the mines,
he would get out of an area just before it caved in. When the
owl came for him to attend Hogwarts, it came as something of
a surprise to the entire family, to say the least.
His parents, determined to keep his skills a secret
for fear of being cast out by the village, telling everyone,
including his five brothers and sisters, that he's attending
a boarding school in Scotland--which is close enough to the
truth. They scraped to get the money for his tuition and supplies,
and there is rarely a spare quid to go around now, a fact about
which Dylan is very sensitive. Dylan's father was killed in
a mining accident in the winter of his second term, but because
Dylan recieved the notice so late, he stayed on at Hogwarts
to finish his term, then did not return until the second term
of his third year.
Talents/Special Abilities: The only thing
for which Dylan has shown a talent as of yet is getting into
trouble. He's known as a veteran scrapper, and it's always been
painfully evident that even the simplest magic is a difficult
ordeal for him--especially Transfiguration. The only thing for
which he's shown any talent is DADA, and even that is shakey
now.
Pet: An independent barn owl named Olwen,
a present from his father.
Wand: 12 inches, oak with dragon heartstring
Other Information: He's quiet and moody,
sometimes all chilly civility, sometimes genuinely warm, and
it's rare for anyone to get more than two sentences out of him
at one go. Mostly due to his personality, as well as his self-conciousness
about his accent and his habit of falling into Welsh when English
doesn't seem to work. However, he's shown a soft spot for another
student--Nicola Pheidippides, a Slytherin 3rd year. Naturally,
this has led to some insteresting difficulties...
